Diplopia in Parkinson's disease: Indication of a cortical phenotype with cognitive dysfunction?

چکیده
BACKGROUND Visual disturbances are increasingly recognized as common non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD). In PD patients, intermittent diplopia has been found to be associated with the presence of visual hallucinations and psychosis spectrum. Here, we investigated whether is other traits cognitive impairment. METHODS We 50 non-demented patients without 24 healthy controls for disturbances, well motor symptoms. All participants underwent a neuropsychological test battery; visuospatial abilities were further evaluated subtests Object Space Perception Battery (VOSP). The two patient groups did not differ significantly age, symptom duration, severity, frequency hallucinations, or sensory efficiency. RESULTS reported more frequent including subjective problems apathy changes global cognition measures compared those diplopia. had greater impairment several tests function (pentagon copying p = .002; number location p = .001; cube analysis p < .02) object perception (p < .001) controls. By contrast, no consistent group differences observed executive function, memory, language. CONCLUSIONS have burden deficits might prone cortical phenotype decline worse prognosis.

Cortical structural involvement and cognitive dysfunction in early Parkinson's disease.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies in early Parkinson's disease (PD) have shown promise in the detection of disease-related brain changes in the white and deep grey matter. We set out to establish whether intrinsic cortical involvement in early PD can be detected with quantitative MRI. We collected a rich, multi-modal dataset, including diffusion MRI, T1 relaxometry and cortical morphomet...

متن کامل[Cognitive dysfunction in Parkinson's disease].
The neuropsychological impairments associated with Parkinson's disease(PD) have been often documented. However, the pathological mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction are hardly solved, as compared with motor dysfunction. Moreover, the precise relationships between the two dysfunctions have remained aloof. This paper attempts to clarify three specific domains of isolated cognitive impairm...
متن کاملAutomatic, unsupervised classification of dyskinesia in patients with Parkinsons Disease
One of the characteristic symptoms of patients with Parkinson Disease (PD) is a rigidity of movement. These symptoms disappear after administration of Levodopa. However, the long-term use of levodopa causes involuntary movements (dyskinesia). A proper diagnosis requires an automatic, unsupervised method for the detection and classification of levodopa induced dyskinesia. The main problem, howev...
متن کاملCognitive Dysfunction in Parkinson’s Disease
With the progressive improvement in the management of the motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease, in the last decades the non-motor aspects of this disorder have gained growing attention by clinical and research communities. Cognitive functioning and its evolution are undoubtedly the most investigated non-motor aspects in PD due to their important implications in the diagnosis and t...
